07 November 2005

The Second Annual Harmony Awards will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 21 at the Renaissance Center in Dickson, Tenn., the Southern Gospel Music Guild (SGMG) announced on Oct. 27. Admission is free and open to the public, but seats are limited. The event will be taped for television broadcast, according to a press release.

Awards will be handed out in 13 different categories - Artist, New Artist, Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Song, Songwriter, Performing Musician, Producer, Album, and Media of the Year, as well as for the Impact, Creative Support and Non-Musical Support Awards. Click here for a complete list of nominees.

Nominees were selected based on numerous statistics related to the individual or group including radio charts and product sales, according to SoundScan. The first ballot was shipped to various industry personnel, including numerous group members, in September. The ballots were returned directly to the accounting firm of Rayburn, Bates & Fitzgerald P.C., where they were tabulated to create the narrowed down field of nominees. A second ballot was mailed this week where industry members will be allowed to choose from the updated list. Once again, the ballot is to be shipped back to Rayburn, Bates & Fitzgerald P.C., who will calculate the winners, the release said. The winners will be announced during the Nov. 21 awards show.

The Harmony Awards were created by the SGMG to honor those in the southern gospel music industry, by the industry, for their accomplishments over the past year. If you are interested in attending the awards show please call 615-832-4119 before Nov. 14 to secure your seats.
