Rebecca St. James New Single!
17 April 2006

The Contemporary Christian music world has been profoundly impacted by Australian influences over the last decade-none more consistently relevant than Grammy and multi-Dove Award winner Rebecca St. James-who places her latest Dove win from last week's 37th Annual GMA Awards (which she co-hosted with Kirk Franklin) on the mantle and boards a plane today for her native homeland-for what else: more performances. This one is at the AGMF Festival -the land "Down Under" Christian mega-concert expected to draw crowds in excess of 30,000 this week at the Toowoomba staging site. Rebecca will also raise her voice in song over Easter weekend at Hillsong Church in Sydney --a site made internationally famous by worship leader Darlene Zschech--and a church Rebecca attended while growing up.

St. James, who moved with her family to the U.S. in the ‘90's while still in her early teens, has become a ‘global voice' -in both the realm of music and ‘faith and values' agenda. Recently back from Rwanda, her recent interviews have been infused with passion about the country and its' rise from the ashes of genocide to become a role model of peace for the world. Recently, too, Rebecca was named the National Spokesperson for the ‘National Day Of Prayer,' in America, to be observed on May 4th. She will return from Australia in time to promote prayer by lending her voice and support along with that of Chairwoman Shirley Dobson to national ceremonies to be held in Washington, D.C.

Despite her international globe trotting, Rebecca's latest music has roots deeply set in her native homeland. Her latest single, "You Are Loved," (EMI/Forefront) now charting nationally in the U.S. had its' inspiration in her growing up years in Australia.

She noted in a recent interview:
"This is a song that's very close to me. It's written about a childhood friend of mine that I grew up with in Sydney. I fell out of contact with him after leaving our Christian school to move to a different state. I ran into a mutual friend years later and asked how our friend, Daniel, was doing. This friend told me that Daniel had really fallen away from God and that he'd been abusing drugs as well. As I was thinking about what I wanted to write about on this album, he very randomly came to mind-and I felt that this ‘random' thought was actually placed there by God. I had the concept... ‘If I had one chance to tell Daniel something, what would I say to him?' The message I felt God really laid on my heart was to tell him...'You are loved.' This is a song for the prodigals-which is all of us. God is the father that has His arms open wide waiting for us. He wants us to run towards Him and He will run toward us. It's a song of hope and a message my generation needs to hear. ‘No matter where you've been and what you've done...you are loved."

Rebecca continued:
"From this song came my latest album title-If I Had One Chance To Tell You Something -and really the key theme of the project.I think I've come to realize, yes, we need to stand in awe of God and be blown away by His power. But it's really His kindness and His love that draws us to Him and into a relationship with Him-His love makes us desire to know Him and love Him in return. That is for me the most important message I need to share-through this album and in my life. From how I relate in my relationships with others to what I say onstage -the message is ‘we are extravagantly loved by God.'"

Following a brief return to the U.S. in late April thru early May, St. James will embark on an ambitious concert tour of Europe in mid-May-a schedule set to cover more than a dozen countries in less than three weeks. She will see audiences in Ireland, Wales, England, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Estonia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Denmark, Faroe Island, Norway, and Russia before returning to the U.S. in June.

Rebecca's co-hosting of the 37th GMA Awards with Kirk Franklin will begin airing nationally in the U.S. on April 15th . The Awards were produced by Steve Gilreath for SGTV, Inc. Walgreen's has signed as a major sponsor. The awards will be televised in national syndication starting on Easter Weekend, April 15th, and running through May 21st. Central City Productions of Chicago is handling first run syndication through network affiliates and independent stations nationwide, with an expected audience reach of 70 percent of U.S. households.
