Amish Community Mourns Loss of Girls
03 October 2006

CBNNews.com --Two more girls died this morning from gunshot wounds after that deadly attack on the Amish schoolhouse in Pennsylvania. They were latest victims of a man who was holding a grudge that lasted for two decades

The injured girls, ages six to thirteen, remain in critical or serious condition after Monday's horrific school shooting.

It happened the last place anyone would have expected - at an Amish schoolhouse in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

When 32-year-old Charles Carl Roberts , who was not Amish, walked into the school, blocked himself in after ordering the boys and teachers outside, and then one-by-one shot the girls execution style before turning the gun on himself.

Police say Roberts , a truck driver and father of three , had no intentions of leaving. He was armed with armed with several guns, knives, 600 rounds of ammunition, and a change of clothing.

Today, as a community mourns, police are piecing together clues from suicide notes the killer left behind.

"What I can say about the notes is he was angry, he was angry with life, he was angry at God - things like that. He wrote the notes to the kids that he was angry," said Jeffrey B. Miller, Pennsylvania State Police.

It is the third deadly school shooting in a week. The first was in Bailey, Colorado where a man similarly singled out girls, killed one of them and then himself, and another in Wisconsin where a 15-year -old shot and killed a school principal.

The latest string of deadly school violence serves as a warning to school systems across the country that no school is immune from these kind of attacks. Next week the Bush administration will host a conference for education and law enforcement officials to talk about the problem and federal action that can help communities prevent violence.
